The Fourth of July is here again, with cookouts, fireworks, and the chance to celebrate our nations independence.  The Fourth of July means summer is in full swing across the United States.  While there might be hundreds of regional traditions that have come and gone, there are others that are timeless and speak to our national heritage.

For as long as Americans can remember, the nation has celebrated July 4th by staging grand fireworks shows in public squares.

Today, it’s estimated that there are more than 14,000 fireworks displays lighting up the skies to celebrate Independence Day.  Backyard exhibitions are more popular than ever, with an estimated 213 million pounds of fireworks sold for the holiday in 2013 – more than double the amount sold in 2000.  Revenues for the fireworks industry reached an all-time high of 940 million dollars 2013.

As with many festive decorations, including streamers, confetti, and balloons, people often appreciate fireworks simply for their bright colors.  Others may appreciate the technical ingenuity and the choreography that goes into the show.  Others just like dramatic loud noises, the sparkling lights, and the thrill of skies filled with explosions of color.

No matter how you celebrate your Fourth of July this year, you will be amongst the millions of Americans who take pride in commemorating the freedoms handed down by our founding fathers.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
